Trek Across The Atlantic
We had several quotes to ship our schwimmwagen from Germany back to us here in Calgary, AB. We ended up choosing A-Team Cargo and couldn't have been happier with the service they provided to us. They organized everything from picking the car up by truck and hauling it to the port, to arranging export documents, shipping and receiving on our end. We didn't have to do anything other than provide a bill of sale and the German registration papers. After that we just sat back and tracked where our car was online. Our car was picked up in Friedrichroda, Germany by truck and transported to the port of Hamburg in Northern Germany where it sat for about 19 days. It was then loaded on a huge cargo ship and Schwam all the way across the Atlantic and landed in Montreal. From there the entire container was loaded onto a trail and it was transported by rail to Calgary. Once in Calgary we had to Import it through customs before we could have it picked up by a local shipping company so we could bring it home. We used Nippon Express in Calgary and they basically hauled the container to their warehouse and we rolled the car off and onto a trailer and brought it home.
Picking up in Calgary
The car arrived in Calgary, AB on Aug 11th 2011. Neither Lindsey nor myself were available to pick the car up once it arrived at Nippon Express. Fortunately for us my dad and mom were able to drive up to Calgary to load up the Schwimmwagen and bring it back to us. Here are a couple of cool videos of them loading it onto a flat deck trailer.
